According to the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal, last week the American Campus Communities made substantial progress on its fourth Lubbock student housing project, The Village at Overton Park. This $34.8 million, 612-bed center will open a leasing office next month to start signing up tenants. It is scheduled for occupancy in August 2012, said Gina Cowart, vice president for investor relations with the Austin-based developer.
“The opportunity to develop in the vibrant Overton Park on a site that is pedestrian to campus, contiguous to student-oriented retail, and across the street from the football stadium was very attractive to us.” Plans call for a mixture of four bedroom-four bathroom flats, townhouse-style units with four bedrooms and 4½-bathrooms, and some two bedroom-two bath flats. The Village will offer roommate matching, and leases are written by the bedroom so residents aren’t responsible for their roommates’ rent. The attractions the complex has already provided for students makes it one of the more popular living areas on the campus.
