Insure your Valentine’s Day gift with your Texas Insurance Companies!

Valentine’s Day is just around the corner. Many of you have probably spent a lot of time and money to make sure that your honey feels special, but don’t forget one very important step: insure your Valentine’s Day gift! According to theI.I.I. (Insurance Information Institute), personal possessions are usually covered in Texas Home Insurance policies. Sometimes these policies do have a limit so you may need to purchase additional insurance to cover the item.
The I.I.I. has 5 steps that you should take to make sure that your gift is covered:
- Contact your insurance agent immediately to let them know about the gift. This is where you will find out if your current Texas home insurance is enough to cover the gift, or if you will need to purchase additional insurance.
- Forward a copy of the receipt to your insurance agent and keep one for yourself to add to your home inventory.
- Have your item appraised if it is an antique or an heirloom. If you don’t know who you should contact for an appraisal, ask your agent!
- Take a picture of the item for your home inventory
- Add the item’s information to your home inventory
Home inventory can sometimes be complicated, read our previous blog post to find out how the I.I.I. has made keeping track of home inventory simple!
So before you hand over your Valentine’s Day gift over to your special someone, follow these steps and call one of our agents to make sure you are properly covered in case of an accident.
