According to NewsWest9, residents of several communities near a Texas lake have been evacuated. This is because a wind-driven wildfire has been raging for a couple days, and even now, they are not going home yet. Texas Forest Service spokesman, John Nichols, said today that about 160 homes are still threatened by wildfires in the Possum Kingdom Lake area.
He says firefighters are concentrating on protecting structures and that 39 homes have been destroyed by the blaze, causing 6,200 acres to have been blackened since Tuesday. The National Weather Service says temperatures are expected to top 100 degrees today, with winds at about 10 mph.
Forecasters expect lower temperatures and a chance for rain by Saturday. The Texas Forest Service says wildfires statewide have burned more than 3.5 million acres since last November.
